Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking, Threatening MBI Officer In Ipoh

Date:

Police have arrested a man to assist investigations into an alleged assault and threat incident involving an Ipoh City Council (MBI) enforcement officer while the officer was issuing a compound notice in Jalan Pengkalan Barat 35 on Friday.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the 42-year-old suspect allegedly acted aggressively by attempting to hit the officer with a vehicle, following the victim, pulling his shirt near the neck area and issuing threats.

He said the enforcement officer suffered minor injuries during the incident and later lodged a police report.

“Following information received, a team of officers and personnel from the Ipoh District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division successfully arrested the suspect on 25 July at about 12.40pm to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement on Saturday night.

Muhammad Najib said police would apply for a remand order to allow further investigations into the case.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who obstructs, attacks or threatens public servants while they are carrying out their official duties.

The case is being investigated under Section 353 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.
