Police have arrested a 47-year-old local man following an alleged domestic violence incident in Kampung Melango Lama that left his wife injured during a dispute.
Saratok District Police Chief DSP Mathew anak Manggie said the suspect was detained by the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 25 in the same village to assist investigations.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous object.
According to preliminary findings, the incident occurred on June 24 when the 40-year-old victim, who works as a trader, was at home and an argument broke out with her husband.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly struck the victim with broken pieces of tile, causing injuries to her forehead and eyebrow area which resulted in bleeding.
The victim later sought treatment at Saratok Hospital, while police also seized four pieces of broken tile believed to have been used in the incident.
Mathew said initial screening found the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
During police questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to intentionally injuring his wife using the broken tile pieces.
He also claimed the attack stemmed from a misunderstanding after suspecting his wife of having an affair, and admitted he had consumed drugs several hours before the incident.
The suspect has since been remanded to assist further investigations.
