The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Machap state seat, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, has said that anything can happen in the Johor state election even though the contest in his constituency is a straight fight.
The Johor Menteri Besar and incumbent Machap assemblyman said he will continue to work hard to secure support from voters throughout the campaign period.
“In an election, anything can happen.
“So we will fight all out to gain the support of the people, God willing,” he told reporters after the Machap nomination announcement at Dewan Muafakat, Simpang Renggam District Council, on Saturday.
For the current Johor election, Onn Hafiz will face Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan in a one-on-one contest.
In the 2022 Johor state election, Onn Hafiz, who is also BN Johor chairman, won the seat with a 6,543-vote majority after securing 11,029 votes, defeating Azlisham Azahar (PN), R Sangaran (MUDA) and Sharuddin Md Salleh (PEJUANG).
He also expressed appreciation that the nomination process proceeded smoothly and called for a respectful and orderly campaign period.
“I pray that the next two weeks of campaigning will also proceed in a good and smooth manner,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nor Hafiz, who is AMANAH Youth EXCO member, said that despite contesting against an incumbent, his aim is to win the Machap seat.
He said his coalition’s manifesto and offers to voters are more compelling and forward-looking.
“After being given the mandate by PH to contest here in Machap, we are coming in with full determination, confidence and commitment that we are here to win,” he said.
He added that stronger cooperation between the state and federal governments could help Johor progress further and develop more rapidly.
