Man Arrested For Stealing Railway Cables Along Klang Track Section

Date:

A man was arrested after being caught stealing railway cables along the KM36.215 Downline Klang track section yesterday.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said it received information at about 1.15pm regarding a track circuit disturbance in the affected area.

At the time, KTMB Auxiliary Police officers were conducting patrols together with the Taskforce D4 team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Klang Selatan district police headquarters.

Acting on the alert, the team rushed to the location and found a man behaving suspiciously while pulling and removing cables along the railway line.

KTMB said the suspect was swiftly detained by its auxiliary police with assistance from the CID Taskforce team.

A further inspection uncovered several rolls of cables and tools believed to have been used in the theft.

Technical checks later confirmed that the track circuit disruption was caused by the cable theft incident.

The suspect and seized items have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

KTMB praised the quick response of its auxiliary police and Klang Selatan police for safeguarding railway operations and protecting national rail assets.

It also reminded the public that trespassing and damaging railway property is a serious offence under the Railway Act 1991 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010, which carry penalties of fines, imprisonment, or both upon conviction.

Members of the public with information on suspicious activity near railway tracks are urged to contact the police or KTMB Auxiliary Police hotline for immediate action.
