A 31-year-old local man has been arrested after police seized more than 1kg of powder believed to be ecstasy in an operation in Penampang.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said the suspect was detained at an entertainment outlet at around 12.30am during the operation.
An initial urine screening conducted on the man allegedly returned positive results for amphetamine, methamphetamine and THC, prompting officers to carry out further investigations.
Police later discovered a bag at another location which contained 31 plastic packets filled with a powder suspected to be ecstasy.
The seized substance weighed approximately 1,060.39 grammes and was estimated to be worth RM20,150.
The suspect has since been remanded to assist police with the ongoing investigation.
Sammy said the case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Investigations are continuing to establish the source of the suspected drugs and determine whether the suspect was linked to any wider drug trafficking activities.
