A 57-year-old man was slashed with a parang after allegedly being lured into an extortion trap by a woman he had met on WhatsApp.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at about 1.15am yesterday after the victim picked up the 39-year-old woman from the Taman Manggis People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats in his car.

The victim was then attacked by two individuals armed with a parang.
According to Rozak, the suspects pursued the man’s car, causing him to lose control and crash into a wall at the Jalan Pangkor junction.
Investigations later revealed that the attack was part of an alleged extortion scheme involving the woman, her husband and a relative.
Police have since arrested the woman and her 30-year-old husband.
Both suspects have been remanded for three days until Nov 7 to assist with investigations, Rozak said in a statement.
Meanwhile, police are hunting for a third suspect, a 26-year-old man, who remains at large.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and Section 427 for mischief causing damage.
