A trailer lorry crashed into a road divider before its cab caught fire after the vehicle split apart in an early morning accident along Jalan Pelabuhan Barat in Klang on Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 5.15am at KM11.1 near the Daiso exit, heading towards Klang.
South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the 58-year-old driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the divider on the left side of the road.
The trailer was travelling from Westport towards Shah Alam when the accident happened.
“The impact caused the trailer body to detach completely from the tractor unit, before the cab caught fire,” she said in a statement on Thursday.
The driver was rescued from the vehicle before the fire spread and was subsequently taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang for further treatment.
The Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene at 5.27am and managed to extinguish the blaze completely by about 6.15am.
Meanwhile, the South Klang district police headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division carried out traffic control measures to ensure road users’ safety and keep traffic moving in the area.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Lim also advised motorists to remain cautious and ensure their vehicles are in safe and roadworthy condition before starting their journeys.
