A 54-year-old man who allegedly attempted to stab a policeman at the Batu 9 Police Station compound in Kajang early Saturday morning is believed to have been experiencing depression linked to family problems, police said.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred at about 12.10am when the suspect arrived at the station on a motorcycle, apparently intending to lodge a report.
The suspect allegedly took a knife from a storage box on his motorcycle and thrust it towards the right side of the policeman’s abdomen after the officer approached him to ask about the purpose of his visit.
However, the policeman managed to evade the attack, with the knife instead striking his belt.
The suspect was subsequently detained following a struggle. Another policeman who came to assist was injured on both palms during the incident.
Naazron said the suspect was scheduled to be charged at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court this morning under Sections 307 and 353 of the Penal Code.
Earlier reports said the policeman was opening the station gate when the suspect approached on a motorcycle and asked to enter the compound.
The officer then approached the man to find out why he had come to the station before the suspect allegedly launched the attack.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the suspect’s alleged motive and the factors linked to the attack.
