A 43-year-old Bangladeshi man was brought before two courts here on Wednesday to face charges of murdering three of his countrymen and attempting to kill another earlier this month.
The accused, Md Idris Ali, initially nodded after the murder charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.
However, the magistrate ordered for a Bangladeshi interpreter to be brought in after finding that the accused had difficulty understanding the charge when it was read in Bahasa Malaysia.
The court subsequently fixed Aug 13 for the murder charge to be read again in a language understood by the accused.
According to the charge, Idris is accused of murdering Md Nozrul Islam, Mohasin and Kiron Miah, an offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The alleged offences took place between 3.30pm and 4pm at an alley behind a house near Taman Linggi and at an oil palm plantation in Sua Manggis, Port Dickson.
If convicted, the offence carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years. If the death penalty is not imposed, the accused may also face up to 12 strokes of whipping.
Meanwhile, at the Sessions Court, Idris also faced a charge of attempting to murder another Bangladeshi national, Md Kajal Mondol.
The alleged attempted murder occurred at Taman Linggi at about 4pm and the charge was brought under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar also fixed the same date for the charge to be read again in a language understood by the accused.
Negeri Sembilan prosecution director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah said no bail was offered to the accused.
