Man Fined RM400, Jailed Three Months For Posing As MACC Officer

Date:

An unemployed man was sentenced to three months in prison and fined RM400 by the Selayang Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to impersonating a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer.

Magistrate Chai Guan Hock handed down the sentence against Mohd Izham Mohd Zainuddin, 34, and ordered him to serve the jail term from the date of his arrest on July 30, 2026.

The court also ordered Mohd Izham to serve an additional month in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

He was charged with introducing himself as a MACC officer and showing a 69-year-old man a work pass bearing the MACC logo, despite knowing that he was not a civil servant.

The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Taman Selasih Phase 2, Batu Caves, Selangor. He was charged under Section 171 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of three months, a fine of RM400, or both upon conviction.

In the same court, Mohd Izham pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of cheating a 55-year-old woman of RM31,500.

He is accused of deceiving the woman into handing over the money for a land lot purchase in Kampung Muhibah Utama, Sungai Tinggi, Hulu Selangor.

The alleged offence took place at Lot 211, Jalan Besar Selayang Indah, Batu Caves, between June 2 and June 22, 2026.

The charge was brought under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

The court denied bail and fixed November 17 for mention of the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Birr Zamier Abu Bakar handled the prosecution, while Mohd Izham was unrepresented.
