Man Held As Authorities Probe Malaysian Passport Possession Allegations

Date:

A Bangladeshi man has been detained to assist investigations into allegations involving the possession of two passports that went viral on social media, including one believed to be a Malaysian International Passport (PMA).

Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said six immigration officers raided a container at Jalan Kuantan, Bandar Damansara in Kuantan at about 6.30pm yesterday, where they found the foreign national at the scene.

He said further inspection uncovered two expired PMA documents, with validity dates of 25 April 2017 and 25 October 2022 respectively, as well as a Seafarer’s Service Book belonging to a Malaysian citizen.

The suspect was subsequently detained and brought to the Kuantan Immigration Office to assist with investigations.

Zakaria said authorities are working to determine the rightful owners of the two PMA documents and the seafarer’s book, while also probing possible elements of unauthorised possession, misuse of travel documents, or other related offences.

He stressed that JIM takes all allegations involving the misuse or possession of Malaysian travel documents seriously.

Members of the public have been advised not to speculate while investigations are ongoing.

He added that firm action will be taken if any violations of the law are confirmed.
