A 38-year-old man with a previous criminal record was injured after he was shot outside a row of shophouses along Jalan Perniagaan Seri Tambun on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at about 10am, shortly after the victim had finished exercising at a nearby gym. Police said he had stopped at a convenience store in the same building to buy eggs before heading back to his car.
As he was about to get into the vehicle, the man was approached by a suspect wearing a black jacket and a face mask, who opened fire multiple times.
The victim fled into a nearby eatery in an attempt to escape, but the gunman chased after him and continued firing. One of the bullets struck the victim’s right hand.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene in a waiting car.
The injured man was taken to Hospital Seberang Jaya for medical treatment.
Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou confirmed the shooting and said investigations into the case are ongoing.
