A 39-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to charges of injuring his wife and attempting to kill her last year.
Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid imposed a one-year jail term for the first charge and two years for the second, ordering both sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on September 21, 2025.
Mohd Hasmi Mohd Salleh was accused of intentionally injuring his wife, Norzuraida Don Khodet, by punching her right arm, causing bruising.
The offence was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law, which carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
For the second charge, Mohd Hasmi was accused of attempting to kill his wife by driving a Proton Wira Aeroback into her.
The charge was brought under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine.
Both offences allegedly took place between 3.10am and 3.25am on September 20, 2025, along Jalan Haji Hamid in Kampung Jelempok, Arau.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Widyaevasari Mohd Kanifiah.
