A 72-year-old man died after being run over by the lorry he had been driving outside a chicken factory in Taman Mawar, Machap Baru, on Tuesday.
Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat said the incident happened at around 12.50pm.
The victim, a local man, had reportedly stopped his lorry in front of the factory’s main entrance before getting out and walking towards the security guard post.
However, the lorry suddenly began rolling forward after the victim allegedly failed to engage the handbrake.
“The victim is believed to have forgotten to apply the handbrake, causing the lorry to roll before hitting and running over him,” Muhammad Zaki said in a statement on Tuesday.
The impact left the victim with severe head injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
