Date:

A 23-year-old man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run after he was struck by a lorry while putting up campaign flags for the Negeri Sembilan state election in Rantau on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at about 6.40pm along Jalan Kuala Sawah–Rantau near Kampung Belangkan.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman said initial investigations found that the victim was working on the roadside, installing party campaign flags along the left shoulder of the road heading towards Rantau.

He said a lorry with an unknown registration number is believed to have veered into the roadside, striking both a signboard pole and the victim.

The driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the collision, and police are now working to trace the vehicle, its driver and any witnesses to the incident.

The victim suffered severe head and facial injuries after being knocked to the ground and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have urged anyone with information about the hit-and-run to contact investigating officer Inspector Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-4611794, the Seremban District Police Operations Room at 06-6033222, or visit the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
