A 38-year-old man has been remanded for four days from today to assist in investigations into an alleged act of mischief at a mosque in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat, Kelantan.
The remand order, which runs until Oct 20, was issued by Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi at the Magistrate’s Court here on Saturday.
Tumpat police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie said the suspect was arrested in Kota Bharu on Friday evening.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a place of worship and Section 427 for mischief.
The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of Oct 5 at Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi in Kota SPP Warisan, Kampung Berangan.
A man allegedly entered the mosque carrying a container before pouring a greenish-brown liquid across the male prayer area and a lecture table.
The substance was believed to contain a mixture of animal faeces, fur, bone fragments and maggots, prompting cleaning contractors to carry out the ritual purification process known as sertu across almost the entire ground floor.
The man was reportedly riding a motorcycle when he arrived at the mosque before breaking a glass door to pour the contents of the container inside.
