Marine Police Seize RM211K Worth of Illegal Fireworks in Penang Operation!

Date:

The Marine Police Force Region One in Penang seized fireworks and firecrackers worth RM211,650 during an operation at the Juru R&R on the North–South Expressway yesterday, marking a major blow to the illegal fireworks trade.

The operation, conducted with the Criminal Investigation Department’s D9 unit from Seberang Prai Tengah district police, followed a public tip-off about the distribution of fireworks without valid permits.

Acting Region One Marine Police Commander Supt Fakharuddin Amri Sanusi said officers inspected a bonded lorry parked at the northbound R&R and discovered 206 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers worth RM131,650. The five-ton lorry, valued at RM80,000, was also seized, bringing the total value to RM211,650.

A 56-year-old man, believed to be the driver, was detained for failing to produce a valid licence to possess or store explosives. The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

Fakharuddin stressed that the marine police will continue intelligence-led operations, especially before festive seasons, to curb smuggling and illegal fireworks distribution. He also urged the public to report suspicious activities to aid enforcement.
