Several men accused of kidnapping a man and demanding RM7 million in ransom appeared at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex on Monday to face criminal charges.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 46, arrived at about 9.30am in two prison vans. They were handcuffed and escorted under heavy security by armed officers from the Royal Malaysia Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
They are expected to be charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which covers kidnapping for ransom. The case is set to be heard before Magistrate Lee Ka Full.
The incident came to light after police successfully rescued the kidnapping victim within 24 hours of his abduction. The victim had allegedly been held by a group of suspects who demanded RM7 million for his release.
Bukit Aman CID Director Datuk M. Kumar Muthuvelu previously said the victim was freed during a special police operation at a residential unit in Shah Alam at about 1am.
Police have not disclosed further details on the motive behind the kidnapping, while court proceedings against the accused are underway.
