Tok Mat Urges Supporters Not To Sabotage Rival Campaign Materials During Negeri Sembilan Polls

Date:

Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters have been urged to respect their political rivals by refraining from damaging or removing campaign materials throughout the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.

Negeri Sembilan BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he had received numerous reports from both the police and the Election Commission (EC) regarding acts of sabotage involving campaign flags, banners and posters in several constituencies across the state.

According to Mohamad, the incidents have affected not only opposition parties but also BN’s own campaign materials. He stressed that all campaign items displayed during the officially gazetted campaign period should be respected and left untouched until polling day on Aug 1.

“I appeal to everyone not to interfere with the campaign materials of our opponents. Throughout the campaign period, these materials are legally permitted and should not be disturbed,” he said while speaking at a campaign programme at the Bandar Ekar Polling District Centre (PDM) in Rantau on Sunday night.

Mohamad, who is also BN’s candidate for the Rantau state seat, called on his supporters to uphold harmony and demonstrate political maturity throughout the election period. He said Rantau should set an example of peaceful campaigning and prove that BN practises respectful and responsible democracy.

Earlier, Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad revealed that police had opened 14 investigation papers related to election offences as of Sunday. The cases include incidents involving party flags being set on fire, as well as campaign banners and billboards being vandalised.
