METMalaysia Issues Level 2 Warning For Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, and Baling

Date:

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a Level 2 heatwave warning for four districts in Kedah—Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, and Baling. As of early Sunday morning (March 29, 2026), these areas recorded daily maximum temperatures ranging between 37°C and 40°C. Under METMalaysia’s classification, a Level 2 alert is triggered when such extreme temperatures persist for at least three consecutive days.

The prolonged heat has led to significant local measures, including the Kedah State Education Department’s decision to implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) for schools in the Kota Setar and Pendang districts. This move, effective for three days starting March 29, aims to protect students and staff from the health risks associated with the intense weather.

Beyond the hardest-hit districts, a Level 1 (Alert) status has been declared for 12 other areas across the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, where daily highs are reaching between 35°C and 37°C. Affected locations include:

  • Kedah: Sik, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu.
  • Penang: North Penang and Seberang Perai Utara.
  • Perak: Hulu Perak, Kinta, and Kuala Kangsar.
  • Perlis: The entire state remains under a Level 1 alert.

METMalaysia has advised residents in these regions to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to stay safe. Health recommendations include maintaining high fluid intake, wearing lightweight clothing, and significantly reducing outdoor physical activities during peak heat hours. The department also encourages the public to monitor live weather updates via its official website and social media channels to stay informed on the evolving situation.
