MetMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning For Several Sarawak Areas

he Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning following forecasts of heavy rain affecting several areas in Sarawak until 12 noon today.

In its statement, the department said the affected areas include Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Kapit (Kapit), as well as Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu).

MetMalaysia explained that a heavy rain warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, which is expected to last for more than an hour.

It added that such warnings are short-term alerts, typically valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
