The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is expected to receive a complete report on the grenade explosion at Kem Hobart, Gurun, which claimed the life of a Malaysian Army (TDM) personnel, on July 23.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry had previously received an initial report from the Western Field Command Headquarters of the Malaysian Army on July 13.
However, he said a review by Army Headquarters found that further action was needed, including recalling several witnesses for additional statements.
He added that authorities may also seek information from new witnesses to strengthen the findings of the investigation.
“Therefore, it is still too early to determine the actual cause of the incident until the investigation process has been fully completed,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
Mohamed Khaled was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) regarding the cause of the grenade explosion during a recent Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) training exercise.
The question also involved measures taken by the ministry to strengthen safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) during training activities and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
