A motorcyclist was arrested on Friday after he was allegedly caught blocking the path of an ambulance responding to an emergency in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
The incident reportedly occurred along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Sungai Tiram and came to light after a 44-second video went viral on the MRCS Penang TikTok account.
Southwest District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab said police detected the video on Friday before identifying and arresting the suspect to assist with investigations.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
“Further investigations are ongoing,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Anuwal urged all road users to obey traffic regulations and give priority to emergency vehicles responding to incidents.
“Blocking the path of emergency vehicles can hinder life-saving efforts, particularly when patients require urgent assistance,” he said.
He also advised the public against speculating about the incident, warning that it could affect the police investigation.
