‘I Will Not Withdraw It’: Takiyuddin Stands Firm On ‘Hypocrite’ Remark In Parliament

Date:

Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has refused to withdraw his use of the word “hypocrite” in the Dewan Rakyat, instead proposing mediation with Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to resolve the dispute.

Takiyuddin said he had written to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to propose the mediation process, and the letter had been received.

He is now awaiting a response on whether the proposal will be accepted.

“I will not withdraw it. Instead, I have written to the Speaker proposing mediation,” he said.

Under the proposed arrangement, Johari could call both Takiyuddin and Rayer to discuss the matter and attempt to reach a resolution.

“In mediation, the Speaker can call me and the Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer, to discuss and try to resolve the matter,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after the Himpunan dan Munajat Penyatuan Ummah (Himpak) programme, held in conjunction with the Karnival Rakyat Kelantan 36 Tahun Membangun Bersama Islam (MBI) at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium on Saturday night.

On Oct 21, Johari reportedly directed Takiyuddin to withdraw the word “hypocrite”, which he had used during an earlier parliamentary debate.

Takiyuddin said he had not ruled out the possibility of referring the matter to Parliament’s Committee of Rights and Privileges if mediation did not take place.
