Nearly 50 Tonnes Of Scrap Rubber Gloves Seized In Permatang Pauh Raid

Date:

The Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM), working alongside the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), carried out a raid on Wednesday at premises suspected of illegally trading rejected and scrap rubber gloves without proper authorisation.

During the operation, LGM’s Inspectorate and Enforcement Unit confiscated close to 50 tonnes of rubber gloves found packed in jumbo bags and sacks. Authorities also seized weighing scales and related equipment. The total value of the items taken is estimated to exceed RM230,000.

According to LGM, the activities uncovered at the site contravene Regulation 22(1)(b) of the Malaysian Rubber Board (Licensing and Permit) Regulations 2014. The regulation clearly stipulates that no individual is permitted to buy, store or sell rejected rubber gloves and scrap rubber gloves without holding a valid PST-G Permit.

Illegal dealings involving controlled rubber products not only breach regulatory requirements but may also undermine industry standards and market integrity, especially in a sector closely monitored for quality and compliance.

LGM said those found guilty of the offence may face a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both upon conviction.

The board reiterated its commitment to stepping up enforcement efforts to curb unlicensed activities within the rubber industry.
