Swiss food giant Nestlé has announced a recall of certain infant formula batches in several European countries, including France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, and Sweden, as a precautionary measure.
The company said on its website that testing revealed a “quality issue” with an ingredient sourced from one of its major suppliers. Nestlé is currently testing all arachidonic acid oil and related blends used in potentially affected products.
“No illnesses have been confirmed in connection with the products involved to date,” the company stated.
Nestlé is working closely with authorities in the affected countries to take necessary steps, including product recalls where appropriate.
In France, Nestlé is conducting a “preventive and voluntary recall” of certain Guigoz and Nidal infant formula batches after investigations indicated a potential presence of cereulide, a toxin that can cause digestive problems.
Affected products are sold under different brand names in other countries—for example, Beba and Alfamino in Germany. The company has posted affected batch numbers online and provided instructions for returning the products and obtaining refunds. A customer support phone line has also been set up to answer questions.
