No Robbery Took Place, Woman Confesses To Making False Report

Date:

A 48-year-old woman has been found to have lodged a false police report claiming she was robbed at a business premises in Taman Ros, in an incident that initially triggered an investigation by authorities earlier this week.

Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian, said the woman had earlier alleged that she was robbed by two men riding a motorcycle at a parking area of the premises on Tuesday. In her report, she also claimed that her handbag containing cash and personal belongings had been snatched during the incident.

However, police investigations revealed that the reported robbery did not take place. A detailed probe conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters confirmed that no such incident occurred at the location as stated in her report.

Following further questioning, the woman later admitted that she had fabricated the report due to personal issues she was facing. The revelation brought the case to a close but also raised concerns over the misuse of police reporting channels for private matters.

Authorities noted that false reports not only distort the truth but also place unnecessary strain on enforcement resources. Such actions can divert manpower and time away from genuine criminal cases, potentially affecting the overall efficiency of police operations.

Police have since opened an investigation paper under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant. The offence is taken seriously as it undermines the integrity of law enforcement processes and can disrupt ongoing investigative work.

Chua reiterated that the Royal Malaysia Police will continue to conduct investigations in a professional, transparent and firm manner, and will not compromise with individuals who misuse official complaint systems for personal advantage.
