Just three hours after meeting through a social media app, a man allegedly invited a woman to breakfast before taking her to a rented room in Sungai Udang, Melaka, on Thursday.
A source from the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) said the pair, aged 21 and 20, respectively, first got acquainted through the app at about 8am.
The man then allegedly invited the woman for breakfast before the pair went to a rented room at around 11am, where they were believed to have intended to engage in immoral activities.
Their suspicious movements were detected, however, before they were detained by an imam and police officers in the Sungai Udang area.
The pair were subsequently handed over to JAIM for further action, the source said.
JAIM said sharing information about such incidents was not intended to expose or shame those involved, but to serve as a reminder and educational message to the public to remain vigilant about what is happening around them.
Parents were also advised to monitor their children’s use of mobile phones and social media applications to help ensure their safety and keep track of their social interactions.
