Prince Harry made his first public appearance on Thursday since returning to Britain with his family three weeks ago, attending a fundraising event for his Invictus Games in London.
The 42-year-old Duke of Sussex appeared at the event for wounded and injured veterans dressed in a smoking jacket decorated with his military medals. He was also seen taking selfies with former soldiers who had been injured in service.
His wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, did not accompany him.
Harry and Meghan, along with their two children, returned to the UK on Aug 26 after leaving Britain for California six years ago amid tensions with the royal family.
The family has kept a relatively low profile since their arrival, prompting speculation over the reasons behind their return.
Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States following a highly publicised rift with members of the royal family. Relations deteriorated further after Harry published his memoir, “Spare”, which contained a series of revelations about his family.
Harry’s latest appearance also comes amid renewed attention on the royal family following criticism from his late mother Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.
In a memoir being serialised by the Daily Mail, Spencer claimed that then-Prince Charles appeared “giddily elated” on the night Diana died in a car crash in 1996.
The claims prompted an unusual response from Buckingham Palace, which said King Charles III was mindful that “the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory”.
Harry’s appearance at the Invictus Games fundraiser marked his first public engagement in Britain since the family’s return.
