Perak MCA Apologises To Sultan Nazrin Over Viral Flag Installation Error

Date:

Perak MCA has apologised to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, as well as Malaysians nationwide over a mistake involving the installation of the Jalur Gemilang and Perak state flag that went viral on Friday.

Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the party took full responsibility for the incident and viewed the matter seriously.

He stressed that the incorrect positioning of both flags was unintentional and that the mistake was corrected immediately after it was noticed.

“The unintentional mistake was rectified immediately, while the individual involved has resigned with immediate effect.

“There was absolutely no intention to insult the Jalur Gemilang or the Perak state flag,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Hang Soon explained that the incident occurred on Friday morning when an elderly staff member from the Perak MCA headquarters was assigned to install and put up the Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag in conjunction with the National Month celebrations.

Once the error was discovered, both flags were immediately taken down before being raised again in the correct positions.

Meanwhile, Hang Soon confirmed that police officers from the Ipoh Police Station visited the Perak MCA headquarters at about 1pm to investigate the incident and record statements from the staff member involved and the headquarters’ administrative officer.

He said Perak MCA had fully cooperated with the police and would continue to provide any assistance required during the investigation.

The staff member involved has also expressed regret over the incident and voluntarily offered to resign.

Hang Soon said the Perak MCA headquarters accepted the resignation out of respect for the staff member’s personal decision, noting that the individual had served the organisation with dedication for many years.

The party reiterated that the flag mishandling was an unintended error and expressed its regret to the Sultan of Perak and members of the public over the incident.
