Petronas Worker Dies After Head-On Collision With Wrong-Way Rider

A Petronas Refinery worker in Melaka was killed after his motorcycle collided with another bike that was allegedly traveling against traffic on Jalan Sungai Udang near the Sungai Udang Prison traffic light last night.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the accident occurred around 7.50 p.m.

The victim, Mohd Huzaimi Abdul Hamid, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. Another motorcyclist, Muhamad Arif Farhan Nawawi, 21, also sustained serious head injuries and is receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.

“Initial investigations found that Mohd Huzaimi was riding from his home in Taman Bertam Setia towards his workplace at the Petronas Sungai Udang Refinery when the collision occurred with another motorcycle believed to be traveling in the wrong direction,” Christopher said in a statement today.

He added that witnesses had seen the crash, and police have recorded statements while urging others who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
