The General Operations Force (PGA) seized 100 boxes of suspected untaxed liquor worth more than RM409,000 after arresting two men during Op Taring Alpha 4 in Klang, Selangor, yesterday.
Batalion 4 PGA commanding officer Superintendent Amanjit Singh said the two suspects, both aged 41, were detained at about 1pm along Jalan Berai while allegedly transferring boxes of liquor from a lorry into a car.
He said the operation was carried out following intelligence gathered by the Batalion 4 PGA Semenyih Intelligence Branch, with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit of the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters.
A search of the lorry and car uncovered 100 boxes of liquor believed to be unpaid customs duty.
Police also seized the lorry, the car and several mobile phones, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to an estimated RM409,818.
According to Amanjit, one of the suspects is a Malaysian while the other is an Indian national.
Both men, together with all seized items, were taken to the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967, the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Road Transport Act 1987.
Amanjit urged members of the public to continue providing information to the authorities to help combat smuggling and other illegal activities.
