Pipeline Leak Triggers Fire In Jalan Kwongtung, No Major Damage Reported

Date:

Firefighters were deployed to Jalan Kwongtung on Saturday morning following reports of a blaze believed to have been triggered by a gas leak in the area.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Control Centre (PGO) said an emergency call was received at about 9.58am, prompting the mobilisation of a team from the Miri Sentral Fire Station, located roughly two kilometres away.

An operations commander confirmed that the incident was linked to a leaking gas pipeline belonging to Sarawak Gas Distribution Sdn Bhd.

Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control using a first-aid hose line while wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety at the scene.

Following initial suppression efforts, Sarawak Gas Distribution was contacted to carry out further technical action and repairs.

Authorities said the operation was later handed over to the company once the situation was stabilised.

The firefighting team concluded their response and returned to the station at around 10.52am.
