Police have confirmed that a bomb threat received via email involving a building near a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday was a hoax.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said police received a call from the building’s security manager at 8.17pm regarding the incident.
The security manager informed police that an email had been received claiming there was a pipe bomb inside the building, prompting an immediate evacuation as a precautionary measure.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Bomb Disposal Unit, assisted by the K9 Unit, conducted a thorough search of the premises.
Following the inspection, police found no explosives, suspicious objects or bomb-related devices at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the email was a false bomb threat intended to create fear and disrupt public safety.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 507 of the Penal Code.
