Police Debunk Viral Claim Of Woman Electrocuted By Mall Massage Chair In Kajang

Date:

Police have dismissed a viral social media claim that a woman died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while using a massage chair at a shopping mall in Kajang.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police detected a Facebook post shared through an account named ‘Luahan Rakyat Malaysia’ alleging that the incident had occurred.

A police report concerning the post’s link was lodged at about 7.50pm on Wednesday.

The viral post claimed that a young woman identified as Nurul Fadhilah Hamidi had died after being electrocuted while using a massage chair at a shopping mall in Kajang.

It further alleged that an electrical leakage from the chair caused the incident while the victim was waiting for her father, who had gone to buy shoes at a nearby shop.

However, Naazron said police investigations confirmed that no such incident had occurred at any shopping mall in the Kajang district.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

If convicted under Section 233, offenders may face a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.

Meanwhile, an offence under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

Naazron warned that firm legal action would be taken against anyone responsible for spreading unverified information that could cause public anxiety and fear.

Members of the public with information or enquiries about the matter are advised to refer to official Royal Malaysia Police channels or contact the Kajang District Police Headquarters at 03-8911 4222 or the nearest police station.
