Police are investigating a viral video showing an express bus driver allegedly handling liquid while driving, raising safety concerns among passengers and social media users.
Taiping district police chief Abd Malek Ismail said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Taiping District Police Headquarters received information regarding the video after it was uploaded on social media platform Threads by a passenger.
According to him, initial investigations have yet to determine the exact location of the incident.
However, based on discussions in the comment section, the account owner reportedly expressed concern that the incident occurred near the area after the Menora Tunnel, a location known for challenging road conditions that could potentially endanger passengers.
“The police are still working to identify the bus company involved as well as the actual route taken by the bus,” Abd Malek said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Authorities are also attempting to trace the owner of the social media account that shared the footage and have urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward to assist investigations.
The 22-second video, which went viral on Threads last Thursday, allegedly showed the express bus driver driving dangerously while opening a plastic packet containing liquid and pouring it into a bottle during the journey.
