Police have recovered several pieces of evidence from the scene as investigations continue into the attempted murder involving a firearm at the Seri Tambun commercial area in Simpang Ampat, Penang.
Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said investigators have completed a forensic examination of the scene and are looking into all possible angles to determine the motive behind the shooting.
The incident occurred at about 10am on Monday, leaving a 37-year-old local man injured after he was shot in the right arm.
The victim was rushed to Hospital Seberang Jaya for treatment and is currently receiving medical care.
Jay said the motive for the attack has yet to be established and urged the public not to speculate, as doing so could interfere with ongoing investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.
Police have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rizal Abd Rashid at 019-8282212 or provide information at the nearest police station.
Jay said public cooperation is crucial in helping police ensure the safety and security of the Seberang Perai Selatan district.
Earlier reports stated that the victim had just finished exercising and stopped at a convenience store to buy eggs before he was allegedly ambushed by a masked gunman while walking back to his car.
