Remand Application For Driver In Deadly Crash Rejected By Magistrate

Date:

The remand application for a lorry driver involved in a fatal crash that claimed six lives in Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal has been rejected by the Magistrate’s Court.

The decision was made by Magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri during proceedings involving the 49-year-old suspect, who was detained shortly after the road accident on Sunday.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police had earlier confirmed that a drug screening test on the driver returned negative, although he was found to have multiple outstanding summonses.

Authorities also noted that the suspect possessed a valid driving licence at the time of the incident.

Investigations are still ongoing, with police examining all possible factors contributing to the collision, including vehicle condition checks conducted with the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

The tragic accident involved a Proton X50 carrying six occupants who had just collected the vehicle earlier that day before it collided with a lorry carrying soil, resulting in six fatalities and one seriously injured child.
