The identity of a woman whose body was found inside a suitcase floating in Sungai Perak last Friday remains unknown, with police yet to identify the victim or establish a clear lead on the case.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Heisham Harun said investigators had not uncovered any new clues that could assist in identifying the woman or locating those responsible for her death.
“There are no new leads so far, but investigations are continuing. The victim’s fingerprints have been sent for checking,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
Heisham also confirmed that police had not received any missing-person reports so far that could be linked to the discovery.
Based on the condition of the body, investigators believe the woman may have been dead for more than a day before she was found.
The case came to light after a boat operator spotted a suitcase floating near the Lembah Kuala Kangsar jetty, with the low water level in the river making the discovery possible.
The suitcase was reportedly wrapped in plastic and contained the body of a woman believed to be in her 30s.
Initial investigations found that the victim is believed to have died as a result of being murdered, although police have yet to establish her identity or the circumstances leading to the killing.
The discovery has raised questions over how the body was transported to the river, while investigators continue efforts to trace the victim’s background and identify potential suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with police continuing forensic checks and other investigative work to uncover further details.
