Repeat Donation Box Theft Suspect Arrested At Sungai Buloh Mosque

Date:

Quick action by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) led to the arrest of a man suspected of repeatedly stealing money from donation boxes at Masjid Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh (MBBSB) yesterday.

MBBSB manager Muhammad Faaez Khesim praised the police for their swift response, saying officers arrived just minutes after a report was lodged and successfully detained the suspect.

He said the unidentified man was believed to have carried out several similar thefts at the mosque and other locations around the area.

“The mosque has been working with the police because we had been monitoring this suspect for some time. At MBBSB alone, we managed to detect three incidents where he stole money from the donation boxes located along the corridor,” he said.

Muhammad Faaez said the suspect had previously damaged one of the donation boxes during his first break-in, forcing the mosque to take additional security measures.

He added that the suspect allegedly used a wire to “fish” for money from the donation boxes and would enter the mosque area between 12.30am and 3am.

The suspect was believed to have targeted the mosque twice within a few days earlier this month before the management identified his method of operation and began monitoring his movements through closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Muhammad Faaez said the mosque then worked closely with Sungai Buloh Police Station to track the suspect’s activities.

He said during the latest incident, he immediately contacted the police after noticing suspicious movements, and officers arrived within two to three minutes before making the arrest.

He expressed appreciation to PDRM for their commitment and fast response in helping to address the repeated theft cases at the mosque.
