Rescuers had to trek about two kilometres along railway tracks to transport the body of a woman from Kampung Serian Batu 11 after floodwaters cut off the village in Gua Musang on Wednesday.
The woman, who was in her 50s, was believed to have died from a heart condition. However, her body could not be brought out through the main access road, which was submerged following heavy rain on Tuesday night.
Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station chief Muhammad Azrul Izzham Zulkifli said the department received information about the incident at around 8.30am on Wednesday.
Four firefighters and four members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) were subsequently deployed to the village.
Upon arrival, the team found that the only viable way to transport the body out was by walking along the railway tracks.
“The distance from where the four-wheel-drive vehicle was waiting to the woman’s house was about two kilometres, and we had to cross a railway bridge.
“A total of 12 villagers also assisted us, and we took turns carrying the body on a stretcher over the two-kilometre stretch,” he said when contacted today.
Muhammad Azrul Izzham said the body was later taken to Bertam Clinic and handed over to healthcare personnel for further action and confirmation.
The operation was fully completed at about 11.30am.
He said the mission was challenging, as rescuers had to carefully cross a wooden bridge alongside the railway tracks.
“Alhamdulillah, we managed to bring the body out successfully despite the challenging conditions.
“We remain committed to carrying out our responsibilities and assisting members of the public in need,” he said.
