A man suspected of attempting to rob a house in Taman Delima was arrested by residents after a struggle with the homeowner in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident occurred at about 1am when the 33-year-old victim, who was asleep at the time, woke up after noticing suspicious activity inside his home.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the victim discovered an unfamiliar individual inside the house and found the suspect searching through the kitchen area.
“The victim attempted to apprehend the suspect, leading to a struggle that lasted about 15 minutes and was witnessed by the victim’s sister.
“While trying to escape, the suspect bit the victim’s right arm. The victim also suffered minor injuries to his left fingers and left toe after falling while chasing the suspect,” he said.
Hanyan said the suspect was eventually detained by a nearby neighbour before being handed over to the homeowner, who then contacted the police.
No loss of property has been reported so far.
He said initial investigations found that the suspect allegedly entered the house through an open window.
Checks on police records also revealed that the 27-year-old suspect from Kuala Ketil had nine previous criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code.
