RM15k Bet Allegedly Placed On Illegal Motorcycle Race In Johor

Date:

A RM15,000 wager was allegedly placed on an illegal motorcycle race that saw part of the Second Link highway in Johor blocked last Saturday.

Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali said the alleged betting amount emerged during police questioning of suspects arrested in connection with the incident.

“Based on statements recorded from the suspects, the illegal race involved a RM15,000 bet,” he said when contacted today.

Earlier, police arrested three more men, including an individual believed to have acted as a motorcycle racing “jockey”, following an operation at a condominium in Sentul.

The three suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were detained at about 1.30am in the condominium’s car park after they allegedly attempted to evade police.

The operation was carried out by the department’s Intelligence and Operations Unit following investigations into a viral video showing an illegal motorcycle race along the Linkedua Highway in Johor.

The suspects were subsequently taken to the Kulai Traffic Police Station to assist with investigations.

The case came to light after a 33-second video circulated widely on social media, reportedly showing a section of the highway being blocked to allow two motorcyclists to race.

Police had earlier arrested eight men aged between 26 and 45, including a motorsport influencer, on Aug 23. They were remanded following the viral video and are assisting investigations into the alleged illegal race.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged betting activity and the identities of those involved in organising or participating in the race.
