A 19-year-old night market trader died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car while he was on his way to attend the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering in Kuala Terengganu.
The incident happened at about 11pm on Thursday at Kilometre 112.3 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) near the Kuantan-bound route.
The victim, Muhammad Zulhairi Azhar Mohd Shahrizan from Klang, Selangor, was riding a Yamaha LC135 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron said initial investigations found that the victim was travelling from Klang to Kuala Terengganu with a group of five motorcycle riders to attend the RXZ Members 8.0 event.
He said the motorcycle was believed to have lost control upon reaching the location before skidding and falling onto the left lane, causing the victim to be thrown into the right lane.
“At the same time, a Perodua Myvi travelling on the right lane was unable to avoid the victim and collided with him, causing him to be thrown back to the roadside on the left lane.
“The victim was confirmed dead at the scene following the accident,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Mohd Nasyim said further investigations found that the victim did not possess a valid motorcycle licence at the time of the incident.
He added that preliminary findings indicated the crash was believed to have been caused by the victim’s failure to control the motorcycle.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with investigations still ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of accidents involving riders travelling to the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering, with authorities previously reminding participants to prioritise road safety and comply with traffic regulations.
