Search Ends In Tragedy As Elderly Man Found Dead In River

Date:

An elderly man was found dead after he was believed to have drowned in Sungai Benut near Kampung Kolam Air, Simpang Renggam, following an incident yesterday afternoon.

Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received a report from Lee Wan Leong, 43, regarding the discovery of his uncle’s slippers and car near the riverbank at about 2pm.

He said the victim, Lee Wa, 76, had earlier left his home at around 1.40pm without informing family members about his destination.

Following the report, the victim’s nephew contacted the Renggam Fire and Rescue Station for assistance in searching for the missing elderly man.

Bahrin said the search operation later led rescuers to the victim, who was found at the bottom of the river near the location where his slippers and vehicle had been discovered.

However, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene and the body was handed over to the authorities for further action.

“The case is being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR), while further investigations, including a post-mortem examination, will be carried out to determine the actual cause of death,” he said in a statement.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident.
