Seven-Month Pregnant Woman Fatally Assaulted by Husband in Kota Tinggi With A Pestle

Date:

A seven-month pregnant woman was found dead in a shocking incident at a rental home in Kampung Makam early this morning, allegedly killed by her husband.

The 34-year-old victim was discovered lifeless and covered in blood at around 7am.

The property owner, Atikah Sulaiman, 44, recounted that the husband arrived at her home at dawn, appearing calm while holding the couple’s four-year-old child.

“He seemed normal, his clothes were clean, and he even drank a juice box with the child. He said he wanted to file a police report because his wife was seeing another man and claimed the baby she was carrying was not his. When I asked where his wife was, he said she was in the room and that she was already dead. I thought he was joking. Then he led me to the room, and I saw her lifeless and covered in blood,” she said.

The couple had been renting the home for five years and had a daughter. They had recently returned from Kuala Lumpur two months ago for treatment of the husband’s mental health issues. Previously a barber, the husband had not been working since their return. Neighbours described the couple as quiet and noted no prior disturbances or arguments.

Following the incident, the husband reportedly filed a police report and later surrendered to authorities.

Kota Tinggi Police Chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, said the victim, of Rohingya descent, had suffered severe head trauma caused by a blunt object believed to be a pestle. Police were alerted at 7am, and a 35-year-old Rohingya man was arrested near the scene at 7.30am.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the incident, which is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
