Shamsul Iskandar: “InsyaAllah, I Will Prove My Innocence”

Date:

Hours after being charged with four counts of corruption, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin vowed to clear his name in court.

The 51-year-old former political secretary to the prime minister spoke to reporters shortly after posting RM150,000 bail, secured by two local sureties reportedly linked to PKR.

“InsyaAllah, I will prove my innocence. I will uphold the principles of the law and from the very beginning, I have fully cooperated with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) throughout its investigation,” he said, flanked by his lawyers, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad and Yusmadi Yusoff.

Shamsul faces four corruption charges, which allege that he received gratification in connection with approvals for mineral exploration licences. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is set to defend himself in the sessions court.
