Six Face Court Over Alleged Gang Robbery At Sungai Udang Warehouse

Date:

Six Rohingya men were brought before the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court on Thursday over an alleged gang robbery at a construction materials storage warehouse in Sungai Udang last June.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects, aged between 18 and 38, were arrested under Ops Kargo in the Kajang area.

He said the group was believed to have raided the warehouse on June 15 and escaped with aluminium formwork worth an estimated RM200,000.

“The group’s modus operandi was to tie up the security guard’s hands and legs before taking away the items from the warehouse,” he said in a statement.

Dzulkhairi said police also seized several pieces of evidence, including two lorries, three sacks containing aluminium blocks and two sales receipts worth RM27,440 and RM101,816.

He said the suspects were charged at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

No plea was recorded during the proceedings as all six accused did not understand the Malay language.

Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin then fixed Aug 10 for the appointment of a Rohingya language interpreter before further proceedings continue.
