Spare-Parts Shop Assistant Charged With Seriously Injuring Wife In Terengganu

Date:

A spare-parts shop assistant pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here on Thursday to a charge of seriously injuring his wife in an incident at Jalan Gong Badak last Saturday.

Wan Noorazmilrullah Wan Noorabiddin, 36, claimed trial after the charge was read out before Judge Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli.

He was accused of intentionally causing grievous hurt to his wife at a house in Desa Mutiara, Jalan Gong Badak, at about 7pm on Sept 5.

The charge was framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and a fine. Section 326A provides for a prison term of up to twice the maximum sentence for the underlying offence when the victim is a spouse or other specified family member.

During proceedings, National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Nur Jawahir Mohd Zulmajdi, who represented the accused, applied for bail, saying her client works as a spare-parts shop assistant and earns RM3,000 a month.

She said the accused also supports four young children. His eldest two are twins who hold physical disability (OKU) cards, while his third child is three years old and the youngest is one year and one month old.

The defence also told the court that the accused’s sister was present and prepared to act as his bailor. It also highlighted a police report previously lodged by the complainant, which was withdrawn on Wednesday.

However, the court denied bail.

The court subsequently fixed Oct 8 for mention of the case for document submission and the appointment of a lawyer.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aisyah Mohamad appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by YBGK lawyer Nur Jawahir.
