Police expect the investigation into the roller coaster accident at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park in Subang Jaya on Aug 22 to take between three and four months to complete.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations were still ongoing, including technical assessments at the scene.
He said the lengthy process was necessary as the probe involved several agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Selangor Occupational Safety and Health Department (JKKP) and forensic teams.
“We expect the investigation to take at least three to four months to complete as it involves cooperation from JBPM, JKKP Selangor, forensic teams and several other agencies.
“A large number of statements have been recorded from theme park staff, roller coaster operators, injured and uninjured victims, as well as medical officers,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Shazeli said police also did not rule out recording statements from additional individuals, particularly those who could provide information on the technical aspects of the incident.
On Aug 27, police said they were investigating possible elements of negligence and sabotage in connection with the roller coaster accident.
Sunway Lagoon Sdn Bhd had previously said it was working closely with the relevant authorities and providing full cooperation throughout the investigation.
The roller coaster involved in the incident also remains closed while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, Shazeli said investigations into an attempted robbery at a goldsmith shop along Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, on Aug 20 were also ongoing.
He said police had obtained positive leads and follow-up action was being taken.
“The investigation is still ongoing. We have positive information and follow-up action is being taken. If there is a breakthrough, we will share it,” he said.
The incident, which occurred at about 10.30am, went viral after video footage showed two helmeted men allegedly attempting to smash a glass jewellery display case, believed to be using hammers.
Two other men were believed to have been waiting outside the premises on motorcycles.
The four suspects subsequently fled the scene.
